DEAD IN THE DIRT Confirm EP Via Southern Lord; Tour Announced

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

An intensely bitter act hailing from the temperate climate of Atlanta, Georgia, DEAD IN THE DIRT have confirmed an upcoming 7″ EP release via Southern Lord for late this September, simply and aptly entitled, Fear.

A savage fucking wrecking crew who merges blinding hardcore fury with blackened metallic might, DEAD IN THE DIRT simultaneously and effectively spew forth filthy, musical mayhem, while concurrently displaying clear and concise production values in their destructive hymns. The band’s unhinged style draws from the discordant heaviness His Hero is Gone, the urgency of Cursed, the speed of DropDead and the blackened darkness of Deathspell Omega.

DEAD IN THE DIRT’s debut EP, Fear, is literally one of the heaviest and most brutal recordings from a new act to come out in recent times! The Fear 7″ will see a one-time pressing of 1500 copies via Southern Lord on September 27, 2011, and once it’s sold out, it’s dead…

In support of the release DEAD IN THE DIRT are set to hit the road for most of September, kicking the shit off with a record release show on September 10th with Earth and Mount Eerie.

THRONE OF KATARSIS To Infect The Planet With Third Full-Length This Autumn

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

The Norwegian black metal horde known as THRONE OF KATARSIS are preparing to unleash their third full-length assault, the vile, seven-track LP bearing the title Ved Graven.

Ved Graven (fundamentally translated to “at the grave”) is ultimately the darkest material written by the band since their inception in 2004. Cold and raw, and with the bizarre aura of an everlasting funeral, THRONE OF KATARSIS recorded the seven rites of this album over three long nights, recording in total darkness. All instruments and vocals were recorded in a live séance in order to capture the aura the band creates during their convocations. Several guitar leads were added to this sinister mix, as well as an organ, recorded during a late night ceremony at a local church in Norway.

As with both of TOK’s previous full-length releases — 2007’s An Eternal Dark Horizon and 2009’s HelveteVed Graven will also be released under the banner of Candlelight Records, and is set for public disbursement on November 1st, 2011. After seven years in existence, Ved Graven is the first recording in the band’s lineage to see the duo Infamroth (vocal/guitar/organ) and Vardavlv (drums) expanding THRONE OF KATARSIS to a full lineup, now also including Skinndod (guitar) and Sanrabb (bass). The album was produced by Stein Sund (Einherjer), and bears hand-drawn cover art by infamous dark artist Njard.

Ved Graven Track Listing:
1. Profetens Siste Vandring
2. Helvete Kaller
3. Av Dypets Kulde
4. The Holy Remains The Weak
5. Mesterens Tilbakekomst
6. Apne Alle Sar
7. The Ultimate Shrine

You have been warned.

HULL: New Track Premiere Brought To You By The Village Voice

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Today long-running New York City weekly newspaper, The Village Voice, is hosting an exclusive stream/download of “Fire Vein,” the fifth track off HULL’s upcoming new full-length, Beyond The Lightless Sky. Set for release on October 11, 2011 via The End Records, the follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed Sole Lord debut was co-produced by Brett Romnes and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins, et al).

Check out “Fire Vein,” HERE.

Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn, New York, HULL has yet again emerged with a creation to outlive the ages with latest saga, Beyond The Lightless Sky. Digging further into the past, the Mayan epic takes the listener through a division of two brothers and the struggles that they are faced with. One finds salvation amongst the stars and the wisdom of a stranger, while the other is mesmerized with the bloodthirsty belief of sacrifice and self mutilation. In silence lies a realm that exists outside the plane of fear.

Commented the Village Voice in an advance review of the record: “Beyond The Lightless Sky, doesn’t stay in one place for too long; instead, it veers between motorcycle-revving D-beat, bog-trawling doom, sinister black metal, Neurosis drum-offs and hypnotic passages that gnash like a venom-dripping cousin to the final Isis album.”

Beyond The Lightless Sky features guest appearances by vocalist Jarboe, keys/ambiance by Fade Kainer (Batillus/Jarboe/Inswarm ) and cello by Joe Merolla with artwork by Tamara Waite-Santibanez ( Pre-order Beyond The Lightless Sky HERE.

VREID Issue Tour Update

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Norwegian black metallers, VREID, kicked off the Black Path Of America Tour 2011 last week in Toronto and though their arrival was met with a series of weather calamities and one canceled show in NYC due to the prospective threat of Hurricane Irene, the band soldiers on.

Commented bassist Hváll: “Our North America tour has been filled with action so far. An earthquake upon arrival, tornados as we entered Toronto and then Irene came and shut down our New York show. Mother earth has unleashed her wrath upon us this time around. We are extremely disappointed that our New York show got canceled, but be sure that VREID will return. We kicked ass in Toronto and had a great show; next up was Montreal which was massive. An absolutely fantastic show in all ways. The audience of Montreal has to be one of the most dedicated on this planet. Then we hit Kingston, New York. It was good to see people ignoring the rain and fear of Irene, to come to The Basement to rock like a hurricane. Now we are in Cleveland and ready to give a massive dose of Norwegian metal at Peabody’s. We hope the upcoming shows will continue in the same good way as the first three. The audience in North America has once again shown their intense dedication, which makes these shows a blast for us. See you soon.”

GLORIOR BELLI Premiere Second Single From The Great Southern Darkness

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Today French black metal heathens, GLORIOR BELLI, premiere the second single off their upcoming new full-length, The Great Southern Darkness, exclusively through Click HERE to check out “Negative Incarnate.”

In related news, — who posted The Great Southern Darkness video teaser early last week — is currently hosting the band’s brand new “They Call Me Black Devil” video. To check it out, point your browser HERE.

The Great Southern Darkness is scheduled for a North America release on September 27, 2011 via Metal Blade Records. Said Revolver in an advance review of the record: “The album combines vicious black-metal riffery with deep New Orleans stoner grooves to create a metal monolith that is equal parts northern blaze and southern trendkill.” Added Sea Of Tranquility of a three-song taste of the album: “If these three tracks are any indicator of the overall sound of the album… the listener is in for a round of French avant-garde metal, with the same sort of dissonant intensity of Deathspell Omega, but – and this is, the interesting part – with very clear influences from southern metal, sludge metal and post-metal. This blend generates a rather original…but also challenging style of black metal.”

Formed in the suburbs of Paris during the close of 2002, what began as a noxious duo soon became an untamable beast, acting as a beacon for everyone looking to free themselves of the influence of the Demiurge. Lyrics and themes explored throughout the years reveal a sincere inclination for rebel-ism and a sense of poetry. Today, GLORIOR BELLI has garnered a stellar reputation in the extreme music community for mixing desert rock textures with the brutal, ominous, doom-laden vibe typical of black metal.

TOTIMOSHI Issue Roadside Update; Band Extends North American Tour

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Eclectic California trio, TOTIMOSHI, hit the road earlier this month for a trek that’s rocked nearly 20 cities and will continue to pummel its way into September with three additional dates in Oregon, Washington and California (see updated itinerary below). Commented guitarist/vocalist Tony Aguilar from the road: “Forget the economy and your troubles and come party with us! We only have half a tour left so your chance to shake our hand and kiss our ass is slowly running out. Don’t miss that chance!”

The band is touring in support of their recently released Avenger full-length which officially hit streets on August 16 via At A Loss Recordings. Offering up their signature brand of heavy desert death rock, Avenger was produced by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Shrinebuilder, Tool), mastered by John Golden (Melvins, Mike Watt, OM) and includes appearances by Dale Crover (Altamont, The Melvins, Shrinebuilder), Brent Hinds (Mastodon) and Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Shrinebuilder).

TOTIMOSHI U.S. Tour 2011 [remaining dates]:
8/26/2011 Milestone – Charlotte, NC w / Music Hates You
8/27/2011 The Drunken Unicorn – Atlanta, GA w/ Zoroaster
8/28/2011 Hi Tone Café – Memphis, TN
8/29/2011 Siberia – New Orleans, LA
8/30/2011 The Mink – Houston, TX
8/31/2011 Scoot Inn – Austin, TX w/ Vaz, Pygmie Shrews
9/01/2011 Korova Basement – San Antonio, TX

9/08/2011 The Highline – Seattle, WA w/ A Storm Of Light **
9/10/2011 El Rio – San Francisco, CA w/ Hot Fog **

“Avenger is fresh and crisp, with much to digest…. a thoroughly satisfying album.” —

“Though it aims for the throat, Avenger consistently seeps into the soul, proving that Totimoshi remain one of the most original forces in modern metal.” — Exclaim

“Comparable to classic rock, but fused with enough modernity to grant relevance over nostalgia, TOTIMOSHI is a steady and robust rock unit, at times flirting with enough progressive adventure to negate expectations of typical rock repetition.” — Stereokiller

“The freshness of a band setting their own rules and virtually creating their own unique pigeon hole is rare, admirable and in the case of Californians TOTIMOSHI deeply satisfying.” — this Is Not A Scene

“…their best piece of work to date.” — Doommantia

“It’s dissonant but melodic, dirty and clean, noisy but engaging, structured but open. If there’s a word to encompass the existence these varied ideas within a singular space that’s better fitting than the name of the band, I don’t know what it is, so I’ll just say that. It’s TOTIMOSHI.” — The Obelisk

“Sludge metal meets alternative metal meets 70s hard rock… an album which – with the presence of elements from a number of different rock genres – probably will have a broad appeal among fans of alternative rock/metal, sludge metal, psychedelic heavy rock, progressive hard rock and perhaps even dark progressive metal along the lines of Psychotic Waltz.” — Sea Of Tranquility

GLORIOR BELLI: “They Call Me Black Devil” Video Brought To You By

Thursday, August 25th, 2011, who posted a video teaser for GLORIOR BELLI’s upcoming The Great Southern Darkness full-length earlier this week, is currently hosting the band’s brand new “They Call Me Black Devil” video.

To check it out, click HERE.

Commented vocalist/guitarist Julien: “‘They Call Me Black Devil’ might strike one as a modest video clip and it is in fact very humble in accordance to the very essence of blues music. Yet it was done with some amusement, which is pretty unusual for a so-called black metal band. The ‘Red Fang’ allusion is a good example of how we can practice self-derision but if you pay attention to details you’ll realize that they call me black devil for a reason. More importantly, just enjoy the fucking song as it is one more glimpse of things to come with our new record.”

Don’t forget to check out the track “Secret Ride To Rebellion” at the band’s official landing page, where you will also find pre-order details, HERE.

The Great Southern Darkness is scheduled for a North America release on September 27, 2011 via Metal Blade Records. You have been warned.
