Friday, July 29th, 2011

Massachusetts metal behemoths, UNEARTH, are currently slaying the masses onstage at this year’s edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. To commemorate the summer-long festivities, the band will be posting a series of video clips throughout the tour.

We’ll be uploading a handful of videos showing how our summer is going, so come back often to check it out. The first episode showcases live footage, our signings and some hangout time. This fest is killer day in and day out, so don’t miss it if it comes near you. See you on the road!”

UNEARTH’s fifth full-length, Darkness in the Light was released on July 5, 2011 by Metal Blade Records and has been flooring fans and media alike. In a 4/5 rating of the record, Alternative Press said: “Darkness In The Light is a maelstrom of melodic riffs, screamy shouts and enough noodling to keep Guitar Hero nerds happy. But it’s not chasing maidens and slaying dragons; UNEARTH have enough of the ’90s straight-edge hardcore scene still left in their blood to give the lyrics an impassioned warrior cry against corrupt politics and wavering faith.” Crave called the record, “…a first rate slice of metal that helps return the meat to the hollowed and empty husk of the metalcore genre,” while Ultimate-Guitar noted: “….it’s clear that this album takes the best elements from every album released so far and pushes them to their limits. Whether it be the urgency felt from ‘Stings Of Conscience’ or the thrashiness of ‘III: In The Eyes Of Fire,’ it’s all pushed to its finest point on this album.”

In conjunction with that festival appearance, the band are set to appear on a four-way split release released by Texas metal label Ossuary Industries, along with Demoniacal Genuflection, Iniquitous (featuring Mike Smith of Suffocation), HOD, and Ingurgitate. The split will feature three unreleased LOCUSTA songs as well as a cover, and will be available for purchase at the Ossuary Industries tent during the Goregrowler’s Ball. For more info, visit: A South/West Coast tour will be booked around the festival, and tentative plans are being made to enter the studio to record their next full-length sometime between Fall of 2011 and Winter of 2012. More tour dates and updates to come.

In the meantime, check out some live footage of LOCUSTA performing at the Newport Music hall with DRI in November:

LOCUSTA released their debut full-length via Kentucky-based Pragmatic Records upon an unsuspecting underground in 2010. The 10-track, self-titled offering was recorded/engineered by Brian Simakis at Capital City Studios, mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering and features strikingly stark cover art by local artist Stefan Hoza. Formed in the fall of 2006, LOCUSTA take their name from a female chemist from Ancient Rome regarded as the first documented serial killer. It was rumored that in A.D. 54, she may have been hired by Agrippina The Younger to kill the Emperor Claudius, possibly with a poisoned dish of mushrooms.

Candlelight Records To Release Classic And Career Retrospect Releases From: DISCHARGE, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, THE VARUKERS

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Candlelight Records will continue its previously launched classics series confirming releases from DISCHARGE, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, and THE VARUKERS. New to the series, the label will release Disensitise and War Is Hell from DISCHARGE on August 23, followed by Holocaust In My Head by EXTREME NOISE TERROR on September 27 and the 2CD The Damnation Of Our Species by THE VARUKERS.

England’s DISCHARGE are considered one of the first hardcore punk bands that significantly merged metal with their punk stylings.Characterized by a heavy, distorted, grinding guitar sound, the band’s raw, shouted vocals and insightful lyrics made them a favorite on “anarcho” lists from the start.Formed in 1977, the band enjoyed a number of charting albums in the UK in the early ‘80s.Reunited in 2000, the band currently features founder Anthony “Rat” Martin, Tony “Bones” Roberts, Roy “Rainy” Wainright, and Dave “Proper” Caution. Disensitise and War Is Hell feature all new packaging and include previously unavailable songs.

EXTREME NOISE TERROR’s trademark noise has done very well for the UK bevy over their fifteen-plus year career. The band’s abrasive, dual-voiced, grinding brutality maims, pulverizes, and simply destroys all in earshot. Formed in 1985, grindcore’s founding unit fiercely rallied an international fanbase with sharp lyrics and a piercing sound. Regular guests on John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 Program, the band has featured vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway (Napalm Death), guitarist Gian Pyres (Cradle of Filth), and drummer Mick Harris (Napalm Death/Scorn) among their various line-ups throughout the years. Original vocalist Phil Vane passed away in his sleep earlier this year due to a cerebrovascular accident. He was 46 years old. Holocaust In My Head compiles 21 tracks of government overthrowing crust/punk all served up in pummeling doses.

Dating to 1979, THE VARUKERS are considered part of the “UK82” or second wave of English hardcore punk. Alongside their peers (Amebix, Chaos UK, GBH), the band’s sound was heavily fueled by the energies and ideologies of 1977-era punk. The band would tour heavily before splintering for several years. Reformed since 1991, the five-piece have continued to impress and keep a loyal and passionate fanbase. The Damnation Of Our Species features 44 songs on a special 2cd set, including selections from their One Struggle One Fight, Murder, How Do You Sleep and Killing Myself To Live albums.

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Western Australia’s masters of progressive metal experimentation VOYAGER have signed with the New Jersey-based prog metal pros at Sensory Records for the release of their upcoming fourth full-length album, The Meaning of I.

Conceived in 1999 by German-born musician Danny Estrin, VOYAGER are certainly well known throughout the prog metal circuit worldwide, having carved an incredible, diehard cult fanbase since inception. The unit’s previous three albums display their unique and even strange integration of symphonic, electronic and progressive elements crafted into a seamless, incredibly executed, multi-genre style all their own, bridging gaps between metal subgenres and even verging on 80’s pop.

The official street date for the incredibly layered fourth full-length The Meaning of I is set for October 11, 2011. But the band are also aiming this release to be available to fans in-person at their upcoming performance September 16 at the annual ProgPower USA in Atlanta, Georgia, where VOYAGER will share co-headline slots of the massive festival with Therion, Ihsahn, Sanctuary, Dream Evil, Labyrinth and more. Just days prior to ProgPower, on September 11, VOYAGER will make their debut North American performance at a one-off show in New York City alongside now-labelmates Creation’s End.

With an impressive history of Australian music awards, as well as many titles of “album of the month” in Romanian, Finnish, Italian, German and Belgian music press, VOYAGER’s notoriety for their energetic live performances has captured audiences worldwide. The band have  battled geographical isolation to tour Europe twice, perform at ProgPower Europe 2006 and share stages with diverse acts like Nightwish, Steve Vai, Soilwork and Alestorm.

ISOLATION: New Track Stream From German Blackened Gloom Rockers Brought To You By CVLT Nation

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Today, CVLT Nation offers up a stream of “Closing A Circle,” from German blackened doom rockers, ISOLATION. “Closing A Circle” is the title track from the band’s recently released debut full-length. Commented guitarist/vocalist Johannes Schmid: “The song is certainly one of the strongest tracks on the album and that’s why we chose it as the title track. The song contains nearly all elements that define our music. Lyrically, the song is about those moments in life where mistakes seem to repeat themselves and you feel you cannot to do anything about it.”

Witness the gloom, by pointing your browser HERE.

Five years after ISOLATION released their first demo, Striding On The Path Of Nihil, Eisenwald finally presents their debut album. Appropriately titled Closing A Circle, the record, which was mixed and mastered at Studio Die Tonmeisterei (Long Distance Calling, Tephra, Omega Massif, etc.), marks the end of an era for the band. “Releasing our debut album was an important step to us and we wanted to make sure that we found our very own sound– so we took our time,” explains guitarist/vocalist Johannes Schmid. Musically, ISOLATION have been constantly evolving from the angry, chaotic, depressive black metal of Striding On The Path Of Nihil and the doomish second demo, A Prayer For The World To End, towards calmer more atmospheric regions, reaching its peak with the mesmerizing extensive riffing on Bleak.

ISOLATION in 2011 can generally be described as atmospheric, melancholic rock/metal with mostly clean singing tempered by occasional outbursts of harsh vocals. While hints of early black metal as exposed on their earlier offerings remain buried within their collective ambiance, it is indeed difficult to give ISOLATION’s style a definitive label.

“ISOLATION will go down well with the Isis, Cult Of Luna, A Storm Of Light, Neurosis crowd and with those who love Agalloch’s The Mantle. Music to sit down and listen to.” — Lords Of Metal

Commented guitarist Alex Bouks of the song: “This was the only song on the record VJS composed all the music for. I think it’s a perfect ending track. There are a lot of different elements in this song from aggression to doom and dark atmospheres….This represents the band very well in all our different diversity.”

“For anybody who likes some good, dirty, grimy old school death metal, look no further than the newest release from Philly’s GOREAPHOBIA.” — Blistering

“Apocalyptic Necromancy is a snapshot of death metal as it was in when it was in its stage of transition between thrash metal and death metal, but GOREAPHOBIA add a lot of elements from more modern metal genres – and even some stuff from outside of metal – which makes this a focused, yet varied, listen which is bound to inspire a lot of headbanging and moshing.” — Sea Of Tranquility

“You can definitely hear the Celtic Frost, Venom and Bathory influence at work here. Powerful mid to fast paced crushing riffs, the overall sound takes me back to the day’s when Death Metal was just starting out…GOREAPHOBIA has done it again, Apocalyptic Necromancy is some killer Death Metal.” — The Adversary
