PALE CHALICE Track Premieres Today Via Stereogum

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Today, Stereogum.com offers the public a first listen to black metal horde PALE CHALICE’s upcoming debut EP, Afflicting The Dichotomy Of Trepid Creation. Set for release on March 8, 2011 via San Francisco-based The Flenser Records, the EP clocks in at over 28 minutes in length, its’ fierce blend of classic Scandinavian black metal putridity and harsh American ferocity displaying the young outfit as a contender for one of the heaviest bands in the Bay Area scene.

CLICK HERE to be engulfed by the blazing opening track from the EP, “Transplant Of Dimensional Recourse,” posted at Stereogum now.

With just a few local shows under their belt over the past year, the band have already amassed a strong local following. Now unleashing their wrath upon the planet with the release of Afflicting The Dichotomy Of Trepid Creation, this is surely just the beginning of the PALE CHALICE legacy.

“The quarter-speed punk riffs floating amid the other blacker ambiance on that one wins it for me, but other folks might be more impressed by an American black metal band going for an orthodox sound with no “post”’s attached.” – Stereogum

“The whole thing is just mind blowing… Beyond effective, beyond affective. 10/10″ – Funeral Rain Zine

“…it takes only a spin or two before one truly realizes how much thought and effort has gone into the songwriting; it’s really a satisfying feeling.” – Metal Army America

“…Pale Chalice makes it clear that they don’t intend to fit in with the Satan-and-spikes school of black metal, even if their sound is heavily influenced by the Norwegian heavy hitters of the early 90′s.  Instead, they opt for something stranger, more atmospheric, and, at times, downright ethereal… 4.75/5″ – The Metal Register

Review copies of Afflicting The Dichotomy Of Trepid Creation and interviews with PALE CHALICE are available to journalists worldwide via Earsplit anytime. Stay tuned for more news on PALE CHALICE as well as other upcoming releases from The Flenser…

WOE: Philadelphia Black Metal Legion Announce West Coast Tour Dates; Band To Ravage Scion Stage…

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Philadelphia black metal legion WOE will embark on rare string of live dates this March. The short trek will commence on March 5 at the annual Scion Fest in Pamona, California alongside the likes of Morbid Angel, Obituary, Integrity and Nails and ravage its way around the West Coast before drawing to a temporary close in Seattle, Washington at The Highline. The festivities will pick up again on the 31st with a hometonw show at Kung Fu Necktie and a spot on this year’s MACRoCk fest on April 1 in Harrisonburg, Virginia with Cannabis Corpse, Inter Arma, Withered, US Christmas and more.

Said band mastermind Chris Grigg of the upcoming dates: “WOE is not given to hyperbole so it is with stern, stoic determination that we say we hope those in attendance of our upcoming West Coast performances are ready to have their heads blown the fuck off.”

WOE West Coast Tour 2011:
3/05/2011 Scion fest – Pomona, CA
3/06/2011 The Hamat – Oakland, CA
3/07/2011 On The Y – Sacramento, CA
3/08/2011 The Knockout – San Francisco, CA
3/09/2011 Ol Hawk Eyes Art Shackle – Chico, CA
3/10/2011 Empire Squared – Eureka, CA
3/11/2011 Plan B – Portland, OR
3/12/2011 The Highline – Seattle, WA
3/31/2011 King Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA
4/01/2011 MACRoCk – Harrisonburg, VA

WOE’s critically acclaimed Quietly, Undramatically was released in North America on October 12 via Candlelight Records. The full-length was recorded at Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, New Jersey with additional tracking completed at frontman Chris Grigg’s BS1 in Philadelphia. The album is the first to feature a full band ensemble comprised of members from Absu, Woods Of Ypres, The Green Evening Requiem, Infernal Stronghold and Rumpelstiltskin Grinder and continues to reap praise from fans and critics alike.

Said the Washington Times of the record: “Woe’s artistry cuts so deep as the band understands the depths of desperation. Their music at times wallows in its own hatred while at others displays optimism that life will improve. It is a satisfying bait and switch because the band knows when to sacrifice betterment at the altar of the bleak.” Added MetalSucks, “Woe’s punk spirit goes beyond bouts with d-beats and energy to spare. They don’t give a fuck about convention, just about stretching what they love to the point where it may not be what it originally was anymore… Undramatic my ass. This is the sound of black metal to come.” Metal Underground commended the band saying: “The album has a huge amount of variation, and tacks on enough unforeseen twists to keep even the most jaded metal fan listening for the whole run time. Fans of U.S. black metal need to make a point of keeping up with Woe,” while About.com noted, “After the brilliant A Spell For The Death Of Man, Woe puts out another sharp, dynamic black metal album that shows major growth and maturity.” Popdose kept it short and sweet: “The USBM scene needs more bands like Woe to take charge and push the genre forward.”

THE OCEAN will be touring in support of their 2010 separately-issued double album: Heliocentric and Anthropocentric (released in April and November 2010 respectively). This mammoth conceptual effort took almost two years to complete. From a lyrical and artistic point of view, the albums represent a fundamental and philosophical critique of Christianity. Both albums scored rave reviews worldwide, including Album Of The Month in Metal Hammer Germany, Italy and Greece, and a cover feature in the December issue of Metal Hammer UK’s/Subterranea (their extreme metal supplement). Said AMG Magazine: “This is the most forward-thinking statement by THE OCEAN yet, and stands as the most seamlessly integrated and consistent recording they’ve issued to date.” Added Rock Sound (UK): “Luxurious, tectonic, ingenious, calculated, charismatic, enterprising, dexterous, inventive, unrestrained, fascinating and poignant. If all this doesn’t convince you to at least check them out, then seriously, fuck off.”

EYEHATEGOD Ready For Tomorrow’s Annual Mardi Gras Show

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

The members of EYEHATEGOD arrived home from their latest East Coast run of dates earlier this week with varying degrees of injuries — mental, spiritual and physical. Dubbed the “Unchecking Our Already Questionable Health In A Shitty Van Tour 2011,” vocalist Mike Williams, guitarists Jimmy Bower and Brian Patton, bassist Gary Mader and drummer Joey LaCaze, kicked off the festivities in Philadelphia, PA on February 16th and systematically leveled clubs in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Syracuse and Boston before being forced to miss their show in Connecticut due to blizzard-like conditions. Commented Williams of the cancellation: “Due to horribly bad weather, we had to cancel our Milford, Connecticut show on Monday in order to make it back down South. Many apologies to the true fans who came to the show disappointed. EYEHATEGOD are greedy, money pig bastards, so don’t think we passed up this gig for any other reason but shitty snow and ice.”

Bringing the festivities to a close, the proud brothers of New Orleans riff debauchery and feedback will play their annual Mardi Gras show tomorrow at Siberia with Phobia and Venomous Maximus.

As previously reported, EYEHATEGOD will unleash an official live DVD on March 22 via MVD. Simply titled Live, the 88-minute production features multi-camera footage from 2009 (Baltimore, MD) and 2010 (Cleveland, OH), with bonus clips from the last show of their 2010 European tour and videos never before released before on DVD. A perfect dose of Black Flag meets Black Sabbath in ragged, live glory.

Team HAVOK are readying for the release of their upcoming new full-length entitled Time Is Up, which is slated for a March 29th street date via Candlelight Records. The  follow-up to the ravaging Burn long-player was mastered by James Murphy and features ten tracks of flawlessly executed thrash anthems. Said Rock Hospital in an early review of the record: “Time Is Up is a killer sophomore effort by four dudes who do justice to their musical forefathers. Cliff Burton would smile on this release.” Added Thrash Hits, “Playing a style of metal that has been around 30 years always runs the risk of feeling tired and overly derivative, but Time Is Up is so lively and bubbling over with personality that it never so much as flirts with those potential pitfalls.” Metal Review agreed: Havok’s purest intention is to thrash your face into a circle-pitted-pulp, and more often than not they’re wildly successful.”

Check out a Time Is Up video teaser HERE.

HAVOK formed in 2004. After two self-released albums, the band caught the attention of England’s Candlelight Records and by the Spring of 2009, the band unleashed Burn to the metal masses. The album peaked on CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at 15 and broke MediaGuide’s Top 10.

CYNTHESIS Album Details And Cover Art Unveiled

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

DeEvolution, the anticipated debut full-length from CYNTHESIS, is set for worldwide release via Sensory Records on April 19th, 2011.

A label priority for Sensory this year, the magnificent DeEvolution tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes’ shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to society’s ills, the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses in order to influence the masses via religion, media, consumerism and government.

Check out the brilliant cover artwork for DeEvolution created by Dennis “Damn Engine” Sibeijn (Exodus, Dragonforce, Lamb of God, Him):

DeEvolution Track Listing:
1. The Man Without Skin
2. Incision
3. Divided Day
4. Shallow World
5. Profits Of Disaster
6. The Edifice Grin
7. Twilight
8. A Song Of Unrest

CYNTHESIS reunites three original members of progressive metal heroes Zero Hour — founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold — for the first time on a recording since their heralded albums The Towers of Avarice [2001] and Metamorphosis [2003], both considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community. DeEvolution was recorded and produced in 2010 by Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Zero Hour), and while trademark styles of both the Tipton Brothers and Rosvold shine heavily throughout the release, over the course of eight epic anthems, it is very clear by more relaxed pace and epic story of DeEvolution that this is NOT a new Zero Hour album.

Promos of DeEvolution will be available to North and South American journalists in mere days, and interviews with the members of CYNTHESIS will begin immediately afterward! Get in touch with Earsplit PR with all press requests.

HULL kicked off what will prove to be a busy year with a devouring performance opening for doom legends Pentagram. As previously announced, the band will release their epic Viking Funeral EP, initially self-released in 2005, on vinyl via Science Of Silence records later this spring. The limited edition wax version will come in 180 gram blood red/black swirl vinyl with the song on one side, a laser etched image on the other and a parchment insert with the detailed Viking Funeral saga as well as a sticker and digital download info all wrapped in a Viking Funeral poster and wax-stamped with the band’s logo. To get your hands on some Viking Funeral vinyl (as well as a sampling of the new tunes), don’t miss HULL on this upcoming run of dates.

The band is putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed Sole Lord debut, issued via The End Records in 2009. Their sophomore full-length will be co-produced by Brett Romnes (who played drums on the Viking Funeral EP) and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Neurosis, Eyehategod, Melvins et al). The record is slated for release this summer with another bout of live dates to follow. Stay tuned for further info…

“Sole Lord is fucking epic. If you like doom and/or stoner metal and/or post-metal, you need to add Hull to your list of bands to keep an ear open for. And someone needs to book these guys a UK tour. Now.” — The Dreaded Press

“Sole Lord is an exercise in grandiosity that never feels drawn out, and one of the most promising debuts of the year so far.” — Metal Injection

“Atmospheric, engrossing, and refreshingly original, Sole Lord combines pyschedelia, prog, post-metal and doom to suitably trance-inducing effect.” — One Metal

“… a seriously adventurous record that demands a seriously adventurous listener…” — The Sleeping Shaman

“Hull is a dirty brand of machinery; that deep inhalation of dope smoke conjuring up a thousand visions of a world greater than ours. Fiery sloth metal, yes…but progressive star driven as well. ” — Inside Heavy
